Notes and Photos

The El Rito Trail, shown (in red) on the left side of our map above, is the most popular and most used trail in the Latirs.  The Forest Service omits it, leaving it off of their maps.  It is too steep they say........ Well, it’s a steep one alright… but knock our eyes out beautiful.  El Rito Trail escalates you to the very heart of the Latir Wilderness with amazing quickness.  Rock climbers use it to access “Questa Dome” - a premier climbing paradise...! ! !  Questa Dome is shown on our map above by it’s historic name that the locals know and use: The Bear – see the next photo below…

The private land to the north, bordering Latir wilderness: Rio Costilla Park is open to the public for a very reasonable fee.  See: http://www.dougscottart.com/hobbies/waterfalls/latir.htm

Waterfall Canyon is a beautiful trail-less hike within Latir Wilderness: http://www.dougscottart.com/hobbies/waterfalls/waterfallcreekfalls.htm

The rock formation in this photo is known to the locals as “The Bear” -do you see the bear…???  -rock-climbers call it Questa Dome

Hotentot Canyon (shown near the bottom of the upper map above...) is an AMAZING – Bryce Canyon National Park look-a-like... as the photo below plainly shows:
