This is the entrance to the upper slot
canyon, reached by hiking up the right-hand, or main
fork of Chavez Canyon above the first slot canyon. Very few people continue climbing up around
the first slot canyon, to see the upper “better” slot canyon above

length of slot canyon portion- about a
quarter-mile
elevation- 6900’ at the top down to 6700’ at the
bottom

Chavez Canyon up forest road 151, near the
monastery, is known as a small slot canyon… but… this is mostly because very
few people continue up Chavez Canyon above the first slot canyon… to the upper
slot canyon above. This upper Chavez
Canyon “slot” is better than the first slot canyon you come to... and it is
shown in the photos above, as well as on the map below… along with the
dotted-lines on the map, showing how to find your way up to it.
